By now I’m sure every cosmetics fanatic out there is well aware of the recent tragedy plaguing the beauty community. Yes, you guessed it. Kylie Jenner’s infamous Lip Kit by Kylie has sold out yet again. I only have myself to blame for my predicament since I totally spaced and forgot about the newest release. Still, that doesn’t stop me from cursing my entire existence every time I put lipstick on, and I can only imagine I am not alone in this plight. So, after a lot of testing and generally infuriating the girls at the MAC counter, I’ve finally found two decent dupes for the holy grail that is Lip Kit by Kylie.
High-End
MAC Cosmetics Lipstick in Whirl and Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in Morning Coffee
I have to hand it to the lovely lady at the MAC Counter for helping me out with this one. Those girls hear people wanting to replicate Kylie’s lip kit all day, and they know just the perfect matte finish shades to get the job done. She suggested Velvet Teddy, a favorite of many, but I wanted something with more earth tones for my skin. She brought me Whirl and I was in love with the color, and helped me debate between lip pencil shades until I finally settled on Morning Coffee. In hindsight, Velvet Teddy probably would have been a better color match, and I’ve even been seeing people wearing it as a dupe for Dolce K online, but texture and finish wise, it’s pretty on point. I will definitely be returning for Velvet Teddy, but until my next paycheck, this Whirl/Morning Coffee combo will certainly do.

Note: I applied Urban Decay’s 24/7 Concealer Pencil in NSA like a balm all over my lip and blended with my finger before applying the lipstick to keep the color true to shade. This also makes brighter colors pop more.
Low-End
NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Istanbul
This one was a little pink for me, but makes a nice dupe for Kylie’s Koko K shade. It applies like a gloss and takes a minute or two to dry to a matte finish, but I was impressed with the staying power this little tube packed. I got a good six or seven hours without a touch-up out of this, and for the price, it was definitely worth it. I didn’t use a lip liner in this photo or when I wore it because it wears great on its own, but I would recommend Revlon’s ColorStay Lip Liner in Blush.

Mac Lip Pencil Morning Coffee

I had been after a new nude lipstick for quite some time, ever seen I had ran out of my favourite Nars lipstick in Dolce Vita. Since i’m graduating in the next few days, I thought that I would spoil myself with a Burberry Lip Velvet lipstick in the shade Peony Rose and a new lipliner by MAC Pro Longwear Lip pencil in Morning Coffee.

Burberry has such sleek packing and gives you that satisfying click when you close it.
Burberry Lip Velvet in Peony Rose. It’s a really lovely rosy-nude shade, with a matte finish to it. The formula is not drying at all and it feels so nice on my lips. It claims to be long wearing but I don’t really think it is. I’ll eat a meal and it’ll be almost be gone by the end of it. I’m not sure if this just applies to the lighter shades in their matte range. One minor issue is the strong scent of the lipstick itself, it has that old, floral lipstick scent. I don’t mind it too much, but if you’re sensitive to strong scents then maybe give it a sniff if you’re considering on purchasing it. While the staying power of the lipstick isn’t that great, I still really like the formula and shade of it.
MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in Morning Coffee. Morning Coffee is a brown/mauve shade.This lip pencil can be worn alone or under your lipstick. I bought it so I could bring some depth to the Burberry lipstick. I line my outer lipsticks with the lip pencil and then fill the rest of my lips with the Burberry lipstick, then clean up with edges with the lip pencil again. I like how it’s so versatile and actually like wearing it alone too and it’s long lasting so you don’t need to worry too about touching it up later in the day! Even at the end of the day, after some wear, it leaves still leaves a nice wash of colour on the lips
I love them paired together as the lip pencil gives the lipstick long wearing power and . Lately i’ve been really into nude/rose lipsticks so don’t be too surprised if you see more pictures and reviews in the future.
